About

A World-building journey through phases.

Quadri Sorunke (Qvxdri) is a Lagos-based visual artist, illustrator, and trained architect whose work explores the threshold between the material and immaterial states of being. He frames his practice under ‘Liminal Realism’, often dissecting a convergence of realities and interpreting them through world-building projects and painting series that usher storytelling with distinct visual languages.

This practice extends into technique and medium, where he oscillates between digital and traditional medium, sometimes combining them as a metaphor.

Qvxdri is known for his work in pop culture, designing cover artworks for notable acts in the Afrobeats industry including Rema, Ayra Starr, Juls, Young Jonn & Wizkid. In this period, he learned to dream vividly and intentionally while refining his technical skills.

A near-death experience in 2021 and the PTSD that followed pushed his practice inward; subconscious imagery surfaced, and an obsession with the nature of the human soul prompted a journey of mapping the overlaps between waking life, daydreaming, and REM sleep.

Consequently, he has created the following projects: “Echoes from the Ether”, “Relapse Trilogy”, “The Dreamer”, and recently “Vanilla Sky” in an attempt to consolidate these parallel worlds.

He is inspired by the expressive, surrealist and distinct visual language of Van gogh, Egon shiele; the world building of Marvel comics, and colour articulation in Wes Anderson movies.

Since 2022, qvxdri has presented two art projects in themed pop-up events namely; “With Love, From Lagos” and “Summer In Lagos”, and featured work at the Art X Lagos fair, and twice at the Plus234 Art fair.
